đ¶ Q&A with Emily of The Daily Dogtrot
Letâs start with the basics â who are your canine co-stars and how did they come into your life?
My two dogs, Milo and Boomer, are the heart of everything I do. Milo is a playful Old English Sheepdog whoâs full of energy and always up for an adventure. Boomer is a gentle Australian Labradoodle â heâs a bit more chilled but just as loyal. Theyâve both been with me for years and inspired so much of TheDailyDogTrot2025. Every walk with them reminds me why I love working with dogs.
What inspired The Daily Dogtrot? Was there a single walk, moment, or wag that sparked it?

The idea came to me after one of those chaotic but hilarious walks with Django and Boo â muddy paws, tangled leads, and big goofy smiles. I realised how much joy those daily walks brought not just to them, but to me too. I wanted to turn that into something more â a way to share those moments and offer the same happiness to other dogs through TheDailyDogTrot2025.
From your perspective, why is regular walking so important for dogs â beyond just exercise?
Walking is so much more than physical activity. Itâs mental stimulation, sniffing new scents, meeting other dogs, bonding time with their human. It helps with anxiety, confidence, and behavior. A tired dog is a happy dog â and a happy dog means a happy owner too!
For dog owners who have busy schedules, what would you say to those who feel guilty about not being able to walk their dogs every day?
Donât feel guilty â youâre doing your best! Life gets hectic, and thatâs exactly why I started TheDailyDogTrot2025. Let someone you trust step in and give your dog the enrichment they deserve. Youâre not failing your dog â youâre making sure theyâre still living their best life even on your busiest days.
You provide walking services yourself â what should someone look for when hiring a dog walker or pet sitter? What sets a great one apart?
Look for someone who treats your dog like family. Reliability, experience, first aid knowledge, and genuine love for animals are key. I also believe communication is huge â updates, photos, and feedback make pet parents feel connected and confident.

If someoneâs nervous about letting someone else walk their dog, whatâs the best way to ease into that kind of trust?
Start with a meet-and-greet in a relaxed setting. Watch how your dog reacts. Do a short test walk first and ask all your questions. A good walker wonât rush you â we want you and your dog to feel totally comfortable.
Describe your perfect walk â time of day, location, leash or no leash, snacks?
Early morning in Bushy Park, light mist, coffee in hand. Off-leash in a safe area for dogs who are trained, leashed for those who arenât. Treats in my pocket, birdsong in the air, and a whole pack of happy tails trotting alongside me.
Whatâs the funniest thing one of your dogs has ever done mid-walk?
Django once disappeared behind a bush during a walk and came trotting back looking way too proud of himself â absolutely covered in muck from head to tail. Heâd found the muddiest spot in the entire park and rolled like it was a spa treatment. I didnât know whether to laugh or cry
Whatâs your go-to soundtrack for a dog trot? Are your pups more indie-folk or disco divas?
Definitely indie-folk â think Vance Joy or Hozier. It fits the pace and peace of walking through trees and trails. But if weâre feeling cheeky, weâll throw on a little disco and turn it into a strut!
If your dog had a human job, what would it be and why?
Boo would 100% be a food critic. He sniffs everything thoroughly, is picky about treats, and always gives me a âjudgingâ face when itâs not to his standards!
Whatâs the one item you never leave the house without on your dog walks (besides the obvious poo bags!)?
My treat pouch â itâs magic. It turns chaos into calm and helps me reward good recall or loose-leash walking. Also⊠a portable water bowl. Hydration is key.

Has a dog ever completely derailed your walking plans in the best way possible?
Yes – one day, I had planned a quick 30-minute walk, but Django and Boo decided they really wanted to say hello to every single person and dog in the park. We ended up staying out for over an hour chatting with other dog owners, making new furry friends, and just enjoying the moment. It turned into one of the loveliest, most social walks ever â totally unplanned but totally worth it.
You get to plan the ultimate doggy day out in Ireland â whatâs on the itinerary?
Morning stroll through Marlay Park, brunch at a dog-friendly café in Dublin, paddle at Sandymount Strand, then a group doggy picnic at Bushy Park. Finish with cuddles and naps in the sun. Pure bliss.
What’s the weirdest or most wonderful thing you’ve found on a walk?
Once on a walk, Django sniffed out an old tennis ball that clearly wasnât ours â but youâd swear it was the greatest treasure heâd ever found. He carried it the whole way home like it was a trophy. Itâs now permanently in our toy box, muddy and all.
Lastly, if thereâs one lesson your dogs have taught you that you wish everyone could learn, what would it be?
Live in the moment. Dogs donât worry about yesterday or tomorrow â they just enjoy the now. A sniff, a breeze, a tail wag â thatâs enough to make them happy. And I think thatâs something we could all learn from.
