Torc Waterfall takes its name from the Gaelic word “torc”, meaning wild boar. According to local legend, the waterfall was formed by a man cursed by the Devil to transform into a wild boar each night. He lived hidden in a cavern beneath the mountain cliffs.
One evening, a local farmer searching for lost livestock stumbled upon the man's secret. Desperate to keep his identity hidden, the cursed man offered the farmer great wealth in exchange for his silence. However, when the secret was eventually revealed, the man flew into a rage. Enraged, he is said to have erupted into a ball of fire and vanished into the Devil’s Punchbowl, a lake on nearby Mangerton Mountain.
From there, the waters of the lake are said to have surged down the mountainside, forming Torc Waterfall and sealing the hidden cavern forever.
On the other hand it is positively lovely there these days and your dog will surely agree. It is a great spot for humans and pooches to walk, socialize and enjoy. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times
